Carol Y. Guess, chair of the chamber’s executive search committee, authorized the posting of a formal job description on the chamber’s website (www.GHBCC.com) and its release to the media.

“As we prepare for our 80th year of serving Houston’s African-American business community, we are compelled to recruit an experienced ‘commander in chief’ to supervise our operations, our staff and our financial resources. The man or woman who fills this position must have the talent, vision and drive to match that of our leadership and our members,” said Guess.

According to the posted description, the chamber’s president/CEO will oversee the activities of the GHBC, as well as the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation. GHBC Board Chair Vernita B. Harris says that efforts of the new president will be fortified by a strengthened chamber, its leadership, and its members.

“We enjoyed a banner year in 2014, and the chamber is poised and ready to assist our new president with enthusiasm and resources,” said Harris.

The closing date for applications for this position is 4 p.m. CST Jan. 30, 2015.
