Partnership provides entrepreneurs with business management tools, spending benefits, and connections to a growing network of Black Chamber businesses.
HOUSTON, TX — The Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce (GHBC) has officially launched the GHBC co-branded Uome Mastercard® Prepaid Card, expanding the Chamber’s efforts to connect entrepreneurs and small-business owners with practical tools to manage and grow their businesses.
The card was unveiled on August 31, 2026, during GHBC’s Pinnacle Kickoff Reception at Podium at Porsche River Oaks. GHBC President & CEO Dr. Asheli S. Atkins was joined by Mark Aquilina of Mastercard and Jason Halstead, Founder and CEO of Uome, to introduce the partnership to Houston’s business community.
The partnership extends beyond a traditional prepaid card. Uome is an all-in-one business platform designed to help small businesses manage the financial and operational sides of their companies. Through the Uome app, business owners can track expenses and cash flow in real time, create and send invoices, accept payments, manage team virtual cards, access point-of-sale and e-commerce tools, and communicate with customers.¹
“For more than 90 years, GHBC has connected businesses to the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to grow,” said Dr. Asheli S. Atkins, President & CEO of GHBC. “Our partnership with Uome gives business owners another set of practical tools to manage their businesses while creating opportunities to strengthen connections and commerce within a growing Chamber ecosystem.”
The Uome Mastercard® Prepaid Card also offers participating businesses 0.5% cashback on eligible card transactions, subject to eligibility criteria, participating merchants, applicable limits, and terms and conditions. Businesses can issue virtual cards to team members, establish spending limits, monitor transactions, and freeze or cancel team cards when needed. Cardholders can also access Mastercard Easy Savings®, which provides rebates on qualifying purchases at participating merchants.²
Connecting Chamber Businesses Across Markets
A key component of the partnership is Uome’s business directory and marketplace, which allows participating businesses to create profiles, discover other businesses, connect, and conduct business through the platform.¹
GHBC joins Atlanta Black Chambers and the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce as Chamber affiliates within the Uome ecosystem. This growing network gives GHBC members an opportunity to discover and support Chamber-affiliated businesses beyond Houston, while also increasing the visibility of Houston businesses to entrepreneurs in other markets.
For GHBC, the directory supports a larger goal: making it easier for Chamber businesses to find one another, build relationships, and intentionally circulate business within participating Chamber communities.
“Small businesses are at the heart of local economies, but they are often expected to manage their operations using fragmented tools and limited resources,” said Jason Halstead, Founder and CEO of Uome. “Our work with GHBC is about bringing those tools together while creating an ecosystem where businesses can connect, transact, and grow.”
Business Spending That Supports GHBC
The partnership also introduces a new model for supporting GHBC’s work. When participating members use their Uome card, GHBC receives revenue based on eligible member card activity. Under the program economics, 0.3% of eligible member expense transactions processed through the program flows to GHBC. This revenue comes from Uome’s share as a payments provider and is not an additional charge to participating businesses.³
The additional revenue creates an opportunity for GHBC to reinvest in programming, education, events, and resources that support entrepreneurs and the broader business community.
Getting Started
Business owners can download the Uome App through the Apple App Store or Google Play and enter the Chamber Referral Code GHBC01 during onboarding to access the GHBC co-branded card program.
