Membership Committee
The Membership Committee serves as the engine behind GHBC’s growth and community connectivity by developing and empowering a team of GHBC Ambassadors. Committee members are not only tasked with driving membership growth, but also with representing the Chamber’s mission to the public. Through strategic outreach and relationship-building, this committee ensures that every member finds value, engagement, and connection.
Responsibilities:

Serving as official GHBC Ambassadors, representing the Chamber at events, programs, and in the community.

Completing a three-part Ambassador onboarding process: in-person membership training, an online knowledge assessment, and mock recruitment sessions.

Recruiting a minimum of three new members per month using personalized discount codes to track and measure impact.

Participating in monthly committee check-ins to evaluate progress, celebrate wins, and refine recruitment strategies.

Promoting GHBC programs, benefits, and initiatives through direct outreach, social media, and word-of-mouth.

Encouraging engagement among current members and helping onboard new members into the Chamber community.

Competing for exclusive incentives including a free one-year GHBC membership and the “Ambassador of the Year” Award presented at the Pinnacle Awards & Gala.

Supporting membership-focused events and initiatives, including appreciation activities, networking mixers, and orientation sessions.
Pinnacle Committee
The Pinnacle Award Planning Committee is responsible for organizing and executing the Pinnacle Awards Celebration, a prestigious event recognizing excellence in Black business and leadership within the Houston community. This committee plays a key role in ensuring the success of the three-day celebration, which includes the Pinnacle Kickoff Reception, Pinnacle Wealth Forum, and Pinnacle Awards Gala.
Responsibilities:
- Organizing the logistics for all three events, including venue selection, program flow, and event experience.
- Coordinating with vendors, speakers, and award honorees to ensure seamless execution.
- Assisting in the identification and evaluation of Pinnacle Award nominees across various categories.
- Ensuring a transparent and fair selection process that aligns with GHBC’s mission and values.
- All committee members are required to assist in securing sponsorship dollars to support the event.
- Engaging corporate partners, local businesses, and community leaders for financial contributions and in-kind donations.
- Identifying and securing sponsors to enhance event visibility and impact.
- Supporting outreach efforts to drive attendance and awareness for the Pinnacle Awards Celebration.
- Assisting with social media promotion, email campaigns, and community engagement efforts.
- Providing hands-on support during the event, including guest check-in, VIP coordination, and general logistics.
- Ensuring awardees, speakers, and sponsors receive a top-tier experience.
CITTE (Construction, Infrastructure, Transportation, Technology & Engineering) Committee
The CITTE Committee connects GHBC members with opportunities and insights in Houston’s rapidly evolving infrastructure and innovation sectors. The committee aims to promote equity in contracting, procurement, and development, and ensure Black-owned businesses are positioned for growth within major projects and technological shifts.
Responsibilities:

Engaging stakeholders in the public and private sectors to advocate for inclusive contracting and supplier diversity.

Hosting industry-specific forums and panels focused on opportunities in infrastructure, technology, and transportation.

Connecting members to RFPs, RFQs, and bid opportunities across local, state, and federal entities.

Providing educational programming on certifications, bonding, licensing, and emerging technologies.

Collaborating with local agencies (TXDOT, METRO, Port Houston, etc.) to keep members informed of procurement pipelines.

Supporting mentorship and networking opportunities between small businesses and large contractors or tech firms.

Recommending policies or partnerships to GHBC leadership that address systemic barriers in the built environment and digital economy.

Facilitating matchmaking sessions between Black-owned firms and large-scale project developers.
Civic Engagement Committee
The Civic Engagement Committee leads GHBC’s efforts to inform, empower, and mobilize the Black business community around civic participation, public policy, and advocacy. This committee ensures GHBC members are educated on key political issues, equipped to advocate for business-friendly policies, and encouraged to vote, run for office, or serve on boards and commissions.
Responsibilities:

Organizing civic education initiatives such as candidate forums, policy briefings, and voter engagement drives.

Planning and executing GHBC’s signature civic events, including the “Meet the Candidate” Network & Nourish edition.

Collaborating with local officials, advocacy groups, and community organizations to inform GHBC’s policy positions.

Mobilizing members and stakeholders around elections, redistricting, economic policy, and other key civic matters.

Recruiting speakers and panelists for civic education programs.

Creating and distributing nonpartisan materials that promote voter registration, turnout, and informed participation.

Identifying GHBC members to nominate or support for appointments to city, county, and state boards or commissions.

Supporting social media and digital outreach efforts around key civic milestones and campaigns.
