There are lots of opportunities for you to get involved with the GHBC and to make a big impact in the Houston business community.

The GHBC has several committees where you have the opportunity to utilize your unique skills, talents and expertise to make a difference. Review the list of committees below and take steps to get involved.

To objective of the Programs committee is to develop effective programming and events that are customized to meet the needs and engage with members of the GHBC.

Standing Meetings: 1st Tuesdays from  3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at GHBC Office

Chair: LaMetrice Dopson , Co-Chair: Derek Holmes

The objective of the Membership committee is to recruit and retain entrepreneurs, professionals, and enterprises that support the GHBC mission.  Orientate new members on how to maximize their participation, networking, and opportunities through the GHBC towards growing their business. Capture relevant membership data that benefits GHBC members and the economic development of the African American community.

  1. Increase membership by 20% in 2016
  2. Improve information collected of the membership database for grant writing and membership impact analysis
  3.  Partner with Advisory Board to establish relationships and obtain corporate memberships with large black enterprises

Standing Meetings: 2nd Wednesdays  from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at GHBC office or via conference call

Chair: James Donatto, Jr. / Co- Chair: Tashon Thomas

The objective of the Advocacy and Policy committee is to engage with the Office of Business Opportunity, METRO,  the City of Houston and others to discuss current MWBE Goals and current Standings per Department. The committee will also Engage the Board of Trustees at these following Public Institution

  • Houston Independent School District (HISD)
  • Houston Community College (HCC)
  • FBISD (Fort Bend Independent School District)
  • Along with area Councils and Counties

The committee will assist with MWBE questions and concerns, as well as foster relationships between these organizations and the Chamber.  The committee will also engage Political and governmental officials regarding policies that help to promote minority businesses.

Standing Meetings: 4th Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at GHBC Office

Chair: Carl McGowen/ Co-Chair: Joi Beasley

The objective of the Marketing Committee is providing results-oriented marketing support and public relations, by way of ensuring a consistent professional image and brand, in print and online designed to meet Chamber objectives.  The Marketing Committee will maintain an enjoyable, exciting, and motivational productive atmosphere in which chamber members are empowered to take on responsibility, develop and present ideas, educate themselves and others, and use their talents and abilities to their fullest capacity.  We will continually promote teamwork, quality improvement, and excellence in all phases.  This environment is upheld and promoted by open and direct communication, availability of information resources, and a commitment to motivating members to reach their maximum potential in everything they do.

Chair: Fredrick Barksdale, Co-Chair:  Angela Freeman  

The objective of the Economic Development committee is to strategically ingrain our professional community into the influential fabric of our City as it continues to plan and transform. The committee will implement strategies and programs to increase procurement solicitations and utilization of Houston’s black owned business by engaging corporate supporters, community stakeholders, public & private sectors and current membership. Efforts will not only be measured by the current spend with black businesses but also by the inclusion via promotion of capable companies at the forefront.

This committee is responsible for:

  3. Industry Forums
    • Land, Air and Sea
    • Energy
    • Medical

The objective of CITTE is to Foster Development, growth, and overall success of our members with core business interests affiliated with the Construction, Engineering, and Technology Industries.
